How to prompt a user to select a new assignee when issue is transitioned?

Ureee May 18, 2020

Hi there,

I tried creating an automation to prompt a user/reporter to select assign a new assigned when they transition the issue from In Progress to In Review but it looks like I have done it incorrectly.

Can someone help me with this? Is it possible to begin with?

Hi @Ureee ,

Validators just prevent a user from transitioning an issue based on the criteria. Then it gives a message as to what the problem is.

I think what you would also like is a transition screen that would pop up with the Assignee field in the screen. You would need to create a screen and place just the Assignee in the screen. Then attach the screen to the Transition for In Review.

To add the screen, click on Edit for the transition.

Hi @Ureee

Looking at your configuration, I don’t see anything wrong.

Now can you confirm you changed the assignee while transitioning the issue or if the issue already had an assignee? May I suggest also adding a field required validator so that the change doesn’t mean an empty value?

Let me know how this goes.

Regards.

Hi @Ismael Jimoh !

The issue already had an assignee and I want them to change the assignee to the reviewer.

Perhaps the way I am doing it is wrong, how would you suggest I do it?

How do I add the field required validator? Sorry I'm pretty new to JIRA so all that I'm utilising are tutorials and case studies.

Thank you!
