How to restrict a Jira project issue type cannot be changed to another?

For example, we have issue type Story and Task. We don't want the user to change the issue type from Task to Story by moving it. We have plug-in script runner and not sure it can do this. Or is there any other easy way?

Hi @Jason Liu

You might wanna disable Administer Jira permission for those types of users who are not expected to change issue types.

At the same time, please be aware that once the permission is removed, the following abilities will be gone altogether.

Create and administer projects, issue types, fields, workflows, and schemes for all projects.

How to disable?

  1. Choose > System.
  2. Click Global Permissions.
  3. Click Administer Jira - remove the group or specific users need to be removed

Hi Zoey, we only want to restrict some specific projects, not all the projects.

Hi @Jason Liu

Then go to the specific projects administration settings, and remove Move Issue permission (if issue field configurations are not identical); otherwise Edit Issue permission is sufficient for certain users who have been granted the global Adminster Jira permission. For sure it happens in Cloud. Just noticed it is more about server environment. Might not make a huge difference.

Removing Edit Issue permission Neglects the essentials for the trivial for Jira admins who are expected to implement global-level changes with project-level exceptions.

Got it. I found the move issue choice in permission scheme. Thank you Zoey.
