How to transition from one status to another status after a specific time is elapsed.

For example Transition from "pending approval"  status to "Open" status if the approval is not received even after 24 hours of issue creation.

Automation is the best solution, but if you will have problems with setting, you can consider a third-party solution - SLA Time and Report. This tool allows to configure SLA for all Jira projects and set automation actions for overdue issues, like: status change, assignee, or priority changes.

Please make sure when you're suggesting your company's addon, that you specifically say it's provided by your team.

You can refer to the Atlassian Community online guidelines for Marketplace and Solution Partners 

Identify yourself as a partner: Make sure the user is aware you are affiliated with a partner company; for example, by placing the name of your company in your user name in {curly brackets} or -dashes- (note that regular brackets no longer work and have been automatically converted to dashes). If you are mentioning your own products or services, make sure you include wording to make it clear that you are affiliated with the company providing those products or services.

I would recommend using an automation rule for this. It would be a scheduled rule that would run daily or however often you wish. Since this is a JSW question and not a JSM question you don’t have the SLA feature at your disposal which would allow you to trigger on a breach condition. As such you will want to create a custom field to record when an issue enters the pending approval status. You can then use this in your automation rule to evaluate against the now() time.

I recommend going to support.atlassian.com and search the docs for Automation. There’s a ton of good information out there along with examples that should assist you in this. You can also search the community for similar posts as there are some good examples that people have posted for automation around transitioning an issue after a period of time.
