How to use Subtasks for Test case creation

We do not have a Test management tool and would like to use subtasks for documenting testcases. How can the workflow be created or modified if subtasks are used as test cases. How can those be executed and set to Pass Fail or Blocked.

Hi Sri,

You can define new subtasks types, set up the workflow for subtasks, set up conditions to block parent issues based on subtask status and more, as described in these documents:

Configuring subtasks:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiracloud/configuring-sub-tasks-818578898.html

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/configuring-sub-tasks-938847874.html

Configuring workflow schemes:

Do you want to set them to Pass or Fail automatically or manually?

It would be nice if we can set them to pass or fail automatically, but i wouldn't mind updating the test case to Pass/Fail Manually either.

Then I'd recommend to set the 'result' manually, and treat JIRA as a test management tool. I remember a project where we tried to automatically set up a status custom field based on the results of a test and it required some scripting and customization. Maybe there is a plugin or something out there, but I didn't find it. Good luck!

Thank you, I will do it manually.
