How to view "status" and manage "rank" for stories not yet in a sprint?

The big headache we have using JIRA is that we have many people working stories (providing creatives, etc), before they go into a sprint, and there is no one view which will both show status and allow drag and drop of the stories to change the ranking (relative priority).     

I know we can do a search to see the stories with status. That does not allow changing of the rank.

 

Suggestions?

Unless I am misunderstanding the question, you should be able to see status in your backlog view of you scrum board for items in a sprint, and items that are in the backlog.  Simply drag and drop to rank.

We see no way to show status in the backlog view.  We can show labels, but not status.

I just verified, and you should be able to.  Can you screenshot?  Also are you on server?  What version?
