Hypertext and Hyperlinks Cause Line Breaks

Nick Lara October 26, 2018

Hi, Atlassian Community!

We've recently migrated from Jira Server 7.3 to Jira Cloud. It's been great seeing all of the improvements and UI changes.

One issue I'm running into is that a line break occurs whenever I add hypertext/hyperlinks to a story. Here's the steps to reproduce this:

  1. Begin editing the description of a story
  2. Make a bulleted list
  3. Make about 5 bullets with some text in them
  4. Copy and paste any URL anywhere inside of any bullet
  5. Notice that the hyperlink is on the same line as the bullet
  6. Click Save

What's happening to me is that the URL appears to be on it's own, unbulleted line. This can be especially annoying if a URL is pasted into the middle of a bullet as it causes a line break for the URL and an additional line break for the remainder of the bullet.

I've noticed that refreshing the page causes everything to look fine for a moment. After a second or so (seems to be after all of the components on the page have loaded), this reformatting happens.

This occurs in both Chrome and Firefox.

Anyone have a solutions for this? I'd like to think that I'm just doing something wrong since we've just upgraded to Jira Cloud and I'm in unfamiliar territory, but it seems like I'm doing everything correctly.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Nick,

This issue that you are facing is a bug that was reported on the link below:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-70692
This issue happens only in the new issue view. A workaround is to disable the new view for now.
Please, click on vote and watch to receive updates about the bug.
If you have any other question, please let us know.

Thank you for the response, @Angélica Luz! I will be watching this issue closely.

Is there an option to disable the new view outside of just clicking the option when it pops up while viewing a story?

Hi Nick,

This can be done by Clicking on the Profile Icon at the bottom left -> Personal Settings. Under the "Labs" section, disable the "New Jira Issue View".

@Angélica Luz Thanks for that!

When editing a story's description via the old view, I am unable to edit using the formatted view. What I mean by that is, in the example of a bullet list, I am not able to see actual bullets. Instead, I see asterisks and am forced to use those to format. This kind of view is confusing and doesn't match up with the experience I had with a truly old view on Jira 7.3.

Am I missing a configuration here?

Hi Nick,

This is an expected behaviour, the old view does not have the option to see/edit the "Visual", only as text. It happens in any type of project when using the old view.

Angélica
