I can't create a company-managed project

Christian Stadler April 22, 2025

I am trying to create a company-managed project but I do not see the option for project-type when I select the template.

  • I am admin
  • I am on a paid plan (standard)
  • I am on Jira Software (my url includes /software)

Thanks for your help!

Hey @Christian Stadler welcome to the Atlassian Community!

When you create a project you should be able to expand this "Show More" menu (see image) and set the project type as company managed.

This is not available for all project templates by the way, so you may want to try using the Blank Project template to see if it's an issue with a specific template you're trying to use.

Does that help or are you still unable to see the project type selector/is the company managed option greyed out? Let me know and we can troubleshoot.

Best!

Mike

Hi Michael -

Thanks for that suggestion. I switched from "bug tracking" to "kanban" template and I now see the option.

FMI: how do I find the blank template? It does not appear in my list and I don't have a template search.

Hey Christian, glad that worked and thanks for accepting the answer. It's strange that you don't have the "blank project" template option as I've not heard of it being excluded from, say, certain versions of Jira or different license levels.

It's usually at the bottom of any template list - how are you accessing the list of available templates? Maybe I can try replicating your route and see if I'm missing it too, then see where you can find it.

If for some reason after that you're still not able to get the blank template, I think you should be able to get basically the same result by using another basic template and customizing it in the same way you would with the blank template.

Ah, I found it under "Personal". I was looking in "Software Development" and it wasn't in the list.

Hi @Christian Stadler

Welcome and thanks for your questions.

In order to create team-managed projects, you'll need the "Create team-managed projects" global permission.

More information

Let me know if it helps,

David

Hi David - that is already enabled. I am trying to enable company-managed projects. My ultimate goal is to create a publicly accessible dashboard, which I believe is only available to company-managed projects.

Hi @Christian Stadler

Sorry, I’ve misread your question

I noticed that you found how to expand the "Show More" menu for selecting company-managed, when creating your project from a template.

Have a nice day,

David
