I dont see the Features option to enable Releases in next-gen projects

Hi!

I am an admin of a next-gen team-managed project and I have enabled the field build but I am not able to add versions to that field.

Checking the posts I should be able to see the Features option in the Project Settings but I don't see it either.

Can you please help?

Hello @Guiomar

What do you see when you go to Project Settings?

If it looks like this...

...then you are working with a Business/Work Management type of project. Releases is a function that is available only for Software type projects.

Hi Trudy,

Yes, it is what I see. However, in the issue itself, I can add the field build but I cannot see how to add options to it.

That field named "Build" is not a native field of Jira. It must be a custom field added to your environment. It could be either a custom field specific to that one Team Managed project or it may be a custom field with Global context that was created for Company Managed projects. Company Managed project custom fields that have Global context can be used in Team Managed projects now.

Regardless, even if it is a custom field that leverages the Release/Version information, Releases as a feature is available only for Software type projects. It doesn't matter that you can add the field to a Work Management project because, as you have found, Work Management projects don't provide you with a method to create the values that would be used in that type of field.

Thanks for the clarification!

A work management project can be added to a Kanban board (under "Your Work" > "Boards" > "View all boards"), and the Kanban board can be used to create versions, and issues within that Kanban board can be assigned to a version. This is a handy way of grouping things together for sprint planning.

However, once assigned, the fixVersion field can be accessed using filters, can be added to a quickfilter on a board, but it cannot be surfaced on the issues. The version can be modified or removed from the issue, but only by using the 'Bulk Edit' functionality within the Issue Navigator.

Even without having the 'features' option within a Work Management project to enable releases, it would be useful to be able to surface the fixVersion field on the issue types, even for work management projects.
