Has this happened to anyone else and, if so, how did you resolve?
I want to reorder some items in Jira but I'm getting a "clear sorting to reorder work items" message.
But all my columns are grayed out for the clear sorting option!
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Hi @Lexi Perlmutter
Welcome to the community!
To reorder items, you need to clear any active sorting configurations. Check your permissions and board settings to ensure you can modify these options. Ensure that you have the correct permissions to make changes to the board setup.

Thanks, Sushant! I'll check with my admin. He may have changed a setting. I think I don't have permission to clear sorting, apparently!

OK, I just checked with my admin and he did nothing to change my permissions/settings? So this has happened without explanation! Can you please advise as to where I look for my "active sorting configurations"? Much appreciated!

If your permissions and settings have not changed, Here’s how you can address this.
Access the board settings by clicking on the gear icon typically located at the top right of your Jira board. Look for any sorting criteria applied to your columns. You may need to clear these settings to enable reordering.
Check if there are any filters applied to your board that might affect sorting. Filters can sometimes lock the sorting order, preventing manual reordering.
Review the column configuration settings. Ensure there are no custom configurations or constraints that might restrict changes to sorting.
Hope it will help!

Thank you SO much for taking the time! None of that worked BUT I decided to reorganize the column from A-Z to Z-A (which obvs. was not my end goal, ha ha). AND after I did that, the "clear sorting" option was no longer grayed out and I was able to select it and then move my errant item as I wanted you. THANK YOU! Have a great weekend...
