I would like to see Parent story and subtasks in single view by expending and collapsing Story

Naresh Agrawal May 6, 2019

We are following scrum.

I would like to see Parent story and subtasks in single view by expending and collapsing Story.

For Ex: I have Story 1 and 2. Under each story I have 3 tasks Task1, Task2, Task3.

I want to see like below:. Is it possible? If it is not possible in Scrum board that is fine but can we see in query view (Advanced)

Story1

->Task1

->Task2

->Task3

Story2

->Task1

->Task2

->Task3

@Naresh Agrawal

On a Scrum Board, you can view a Story and its Sub-tasks out-of-the-box in JIRA, but to see Tasks, which are at same issue hierarchy level as Story, they should be linked to the Story using a link type.

If you have Story and Tasks as only issue types in your project, I would suggest to choose "Stories" as "Swimlanes" in your Scrum board configuration to see if it satisfies your view requirements.

But if you a lot of issue types (belonging to different hierarchy levels) in your Project, I would recommend to try and implement this 3rd party add-on that is most frequently used by JIRA Project Managers and power users to create and view Custom Hierarchies of issues for their JIRA projects:

@Naresh Agrawal Did my answer help resolving your query?

I could not try this option. As it has to be done by JIRA admin here. I have used Visual studio before to follow agile and there I could see Parent story and child subtasks (with its status, assigned to etc) just by clicking expanding/collapse icon in one screen which was very easy to track. Not sure why in JIRA we are restricting these and requiring so many configurations to have such views.

@Naresh Agrawal Please try the configuration I suggested for Scrum board. You can do it yourself if you have Board admin permissions or can ask your JIRA admin to do it for you. Hope it resolves your query!
