If I change the project Key, Will the Numerical sequence stay the same?

david.clinton November 9, 2020

For Example we have  a number of Issue that are numbered as follow:

TALS-248

If I wish to change to A new Key, will the Numeric portion persist.

Old ID                   New ID

TALS-248              INNO-248

David,

No. What will happen is that the issue will adopt a new key just as if it had been originally been created as a part of the INNO project. So if the INNO project was slated to next create INNO-438, the ticket you move in there would become INNO-438.

The good news is that you can continue to search for the ticket using the old issue key. If you search for TALS-248, it'll return the issue even after it's been moved.

Thanks,

Kian

Now that I re-read the comment, I still have a question.  Does that mean all the existing tickets will get renumbered?

The only tickets which will be renumbered are the ones you move.

Let's say you have 3 tickets in TALS, TALS-1, TALS-2, TALS-3 and 3 tickets in INNO, INNO-1, INNO-2, INNO-3.

Moving TALS-1 to the INNO project will only rekey TALS-1. So you'd have TALS-2, TAL-3 in the TALS projects, and INNO-1, INNO-2, INNO-3, and INNO-4 (Previously TALS-1).

Does that make sense?
