We are trying to merge two instances of linked Jira and Confluence into one. Right now I am testing import of projects from ver 7.12.2 Jira software into ver 7.6.4 Jira software.
I used the Project Configurator plugin to export and tried to import the project with Jira's native project import tool. I got the error "The file [file directory] is not a valid JIRA backup."
I'm not sure if this is a problem due to version differences, or if it might be something else. I found the following when searching for a solution:
I guess for now, I want to know if there's any safe way to import a project from a newer version of Jira to an older version. It would be preferable if we didn't have to upgrade.
Going to a lesser version would be the problem. The only way I know of is to export to csv project, by project and import.
I don't see the option to export the project as a CSV. I do see the option to export the issues within the project. This would only export the issue information though. I require both the configuration and attachments. Additionally, I don't think this would preserve the link between the issues to their respective pages in confluence.

There is no option to export a project. You need to export all the issues from the project , create a new project in the new version and them import them import them into the newly created project. Upgrading would probably easier.
