In the Jira Board and Backlog, Moving an Issue in the Changes the Current View

Dan Long May 13, 2025

When you're in the the Backlog and you move a ticket from the Backlog to a sprint, the current view jumps to where the issue was moved to.   The issue is that if there are 1500 issues and you're in the middle... you've just lost your position while trying to comb through the backlog.

This used to NOT happen.  We updated from the last LTS 9.12.x to 10.3.4 LTS.

Does anyone know if there is a setting or method/work-around so that the view doesn't change or get updated when you move an issue between backlog and sprints?

----------------- Half Answer -----------------

Playing around .. I found that if you collapse the sprints the view doesn't update when you move an issue from the backlog to the sprint.  I would guess that when moving an issue between the sprint or backlog, if the target section is collapsed then the view does not need an update so the view doesn't change.  Whereas if the target section is expanded, then a refresh occurs so that the issue is displayed but then the focus is on the ticket and the view jumps to the ticket at the destination.

----------------- Half Unanswered -----------------

If the target and destination (backlog or sprint) is the same but position changes (top or bottom), then the view jumps to where the ticket is... we'd like to disable / stop this behavior.  Any suggestions?

Hi @Dan Long

It used to happen to me as well. Then I started using the ellipsis menu when you select the item that you want to move and then select the sprint, that way you kind of know your location. My backlog was 50-60 not as big as what you are handling.

Hope that helps.

Thanks

We have tried the "Send to" option from both the ellipsis menu as well as right-clicking on the ticket and selecting the sprint.   Unfortunately, both have the same jump effect unless the target is collapsed, which doesn't help if the target is the same as the destination since the view is of course, expanded.
