In the issue view, how can I hide/minimize the right-hand pane with the context fields?

Shy Aberman April 8, 2021

Hi there,

One of my team members wants to hide, minimize, or otherwise reduce in size the right-hand pane that shows the context fields in the issue view. (Apologies if my terminology is wrong or slightly off. Is it the "context pane"?)

Unlike the lift-hand project nav menu, the context pane does not provide an obvious collapse mechanism, and I could not find a configuration option for it.

This is a next-gen project.

Thanks!

EDIT

For clarity, here is a screenshot of the issue view screen, with the right-hand pane that we hope to hide / minimize annotated with a red rectangle:

Hello @Shy Aberman - I believe what you want to do is convert your issue view for Sidebar to Dialog.  To do this, to go the issue detail in the right-hand pane and click on the three dots.  From there, select "Open issues in dialog".  Moving forward, when you select an issue, it will open all issues in a dialog window (pop-up) and the issue details will no longer appear in a sidebar.

@Andrew Kendris, thanks for your response. I think we're talking about different screens in Jira, so I've edited my original question to add an annotated screenshot of the UI I'm asking about.

Please let me know if your answer still applies or perhaps you have the answer for the clarified question! :-)

Thanks

Ah, thank you for the clarification! I thought you were referring to the Kanban board view with the issue details showing on the right sidebar 😄 What you are showing here is the issue screen in fullscreen - there is no way to hide/collapse this part of interface.

That's too bad! I suspected as much, since I couldn't find any hint of UI or configurability to allow it.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, my work-around was very... hacky: I showed my team member how to use the browser's dev tools to modify CSS to hide the right-hand panel.

Definitely NOT an option for most folks. :-)

FWIW, I'd love to see this feature. I use Jira and Figma up on a split screen when grooming, and I'd love to focus on the ticket description for the Jira window. It's unused screen real estate.

Solved with this extension to collapse/expand the right panel of Jira. Freeing up more space on the main panelIt will be useful until they implement this function in Jira.

Hi @Shy Aberman

there are many askings around this and yet changing the behaviour is not possible - but please do leave your vote for the corresponding suggestion on jira.atlassian.com:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-21242

Likeliness is then higher that this topic gains some attraction and formatting will be changed in future.

Regards,
Daniel
