Information about atlassian products

Mauro Cavioli May 24, 2018

Hi,

I'd like to have some information about Atlassian products to better understand which could be the best solutions for our need. I'm working on a programme that comprises several projects, currently planned with a waterfall approach. The solution is based on the interconnection and integration of several products, so the approach is more like an agile approach than a waterfall one; for this reason we're changing the approach in a more effectively way to reach our goals, even though the use of a GANTT diagram could be still useful to represent the progress situation to our client. In addition, we have to manage technical documentation, approval workflows, issue and risks, and so on.

Considering these aspects, I saw that Jira + Jira Core + Confluence, with the option to add a GANTT plugin, could be the right combo of products that should cover our needs.

Could anyone please help me to understand if my consideration is correct?
Any other useful information regarding Atlassian products is welcome.

Many thank!

Kind Regards,

Mauro

Hi @Mauro Cavioli,

I recommend using either Big Picture or Big Gantt to easily manage your projects at a program level. Both include gantt charts and allow you to create interdependencies between the projects within the program. Big Picture has some additional features like a risk registry matrix.

Good luck!

Hi Scott,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

From your answer I can guess that the combo Jira + Jira Core + Confluence is the basic where add Big Picture or Big Gantt plugins, is it right? Or I can avoid Jira Core?

Thanks again.

Mauro

Definitely get Confluence; you'll need it for collaboration and document storage. If you are using a strict waterfall methodology with stage gates it will make it easier to review/revise your project artifacts.

Here is some information on Jira Software vs. Jira Core:

For those it is all about licencing and how you will use it.  If your projects are a combination of software, hardware and infrastructure projects then I recommend Jira Software (I think if you buy Jira Software it comes with Jira Core, but I could be wrong.) The tools in Jira Software are useful even with a waterfall approach, and you;d be able to integrate waterfall and agile projects at the program level with the Big Picture or Big Gantt add-on.
