Hello together,
I am currently trying to set up an Insight schema where I have the object type "Equipment".
This type has a manufacturer as an attribute.
Now I would like to add the manufacturer as an Insight user which should only have access to the Insight objects which have him filled in as the manufacturer.
Is this possible?
Thank you
Johannes
Hi Johannes,
I'm Fredrik Karbing, Product Specialist at Riada, the company behind Insight, the number one "Asset Management For Jira" application.
Since you mention: Insight Schema, Object Type, Insight User and Insight Objects, all core concepts of Insight, I'm led to assuming that you are referring to our product.
To your question: the answer depends a bit on your exact needs and situation (from where is the data accessed etc.).
If your specific case is: "Restrict View access for fellow Object Schema (in the same Object Schema)" - which is very restrictive - the current and short answer is no, but we are looking into that as well, always aiming to improve.
Regardless of your case, there is usually some solution that can be applied, and would be interesting to find out more about your specific situation in order to find a solution for you.
Please feel free to contact me at:
fredrik.karbing@riada.se
Kind regards
// Fredrik
Hi Fredrik,
I'm currently looking at permissions and restrictions for schemas too. From this answer back in 2019, I can see it wasn't possible. Has this been changed since?
Thanks,
Gemma

Hello Johannes,
Just to make sure, when you say "object type" you are meaning an issue type of JIRA, is that correct?
If that's the case, you can achieve your goal by performing the steps below:
- Create a new Custom issue type Equipment and add it to the relevant projects
- Create a User picker custom field to get the manufacturer value and add it to your issue type screens
- Navigate to the relevant project > Project settings > Permissions > Actions > Edit Permissions
- Click on edit for the Browse Projects permission > Select User custom field value and add the manufacturer field to it
- If you want the manufacturer to perform any other actions as assign issues or edit issues, repeat the same steps above to the other project permissions
Let me know if it works for you.
