Is it possible to add new columns in a board without impacting other boards?

Chakshu Arora October 3, 2018

Hi,

We have a project 'A' in our team and two scrum boards in this project . I would like to add new columns in one of the board without impacting other boards column. Is it possible?

A board is a view of a selection of issues.  You can define whatever columns you need for your board, and it will have no effect on any other board, because your new board is simply another viewpoint.

Your board will continue to show the issues as they are.  The issues are not contained by any board you are looking at, they have their own data, including where they are in your process, and so they will show that on your board/view

Thanks for explaination Nic. I appreciate it.

I tried it and have created a new columns in my board. I have even mapped the existing status to the new columns, however i cannot move the tickets to new column as they are not allowing to go to next column.

i can go to other old columns though but not this new column. Can you plesae help?

Your workflow does not have transitions into the status, or, if they do, there are conditions on them that are blocking the move.

Ok, is saw the workflow which is used by many projects in my organization and have transitions into statuses.

Where do i see the conditions which might be blocking and can i as Project and board admin fix those conditions? or jira admin help is required.

You need to be an admin to get to the conditions, as you need to edit the workflow.

Hey Chakshu,

You can definitely do this.

Any edits to your board will be limited to that board and shouldn't impact anything else.

Hope this helps,

Tyler

Thanks for quick reply Tyler.

I added some new columns and mapped some existing status to these new columns and is shown on my board. ( for eg. i added SIT test column and added SIT test status to this column)

When i try to move the story from previous column i.e INT testing to SIT Columdon't doent allow. I can only move to Done column.

Do i have to change the workflow or something?
