Is it possible to change lines in description field when importing CSV ?

We are currently using import function to create several tasks at once.

And we have a column on CSV for a description field and each has some categories should be written.
When I import it into JIRA, it always came out as connected words.

What I want to do:

I want to make them separated to the different lines between each categories.
I'll  show the example by picture down below.

Hey @光野 かおる ,

as far as I know the new lines should automatically detected and imported if the CSV is formatted correct.

HOWEVER as shown in the bug JRACLOUD-46365 new lines disappear if you use the "Map field value" option. The reason is correctly provided by Akshay MD in the comment section.

Therefore make sure NOT to use the "Map field value" option on the description.

I hope my answer helped you. In the case this answer does not help you, let me know.

Best regards & a wonderful friday

Noah

Hi @Noah Leu

Thank you for your answer.

I am not sure if my CSV is written correctly but I tried both way on that issues.

And here is the result.

1. Don't hit "map value" for description.

-> The content of description field didn't show up on the issue after the import.

2.put ¥¥ before the line which needs to be changed.

-> I doesn't come out the way I expected.
The result becomes like :summary//explanation//~~~~~//~~~

Do you know how I can fix this ?

Hey @光野 かおる ,

just to confirm. When we are talking about the "Map field value" option. I am talking about the checkbox on the right of the field mapping

The field need of course to be mapped to the Description field. Therefore it should somehow look like this:

ImportDescription.png

Could you confirm that this is the way you tried to import your data?

@Noah Leu
Thank you for your reply!

I tried the way you showed me and it worked !
Thank you so much !

And there is one more thing that i want to ask you.
I also have a goal field and I also want it to break lines but it didn't work the same way as description field.
Is there any way that i can make it work in the same as a description field ?

Hey @光野 かおる ,

I'm glad it works! Assuming the "goal" field is a multi line text field and formatted the same way as the description you may need to put the values into double-quote marks (").

Let me know if this works for you. If it does not work, you can attach a small screenshot of the goal field from the CSV.

Best regards
Noah

Hi @光野 かおる

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including the ability to (bulk) edit fields using copy/paste. This works within JXL, but also between JXL and pretty much any other app (incl. Excel or Google Sheets), and also works as expected for multi-line input.

This is how it looks in action:

copy-paste-multi-line-text.gif

You can copy/paste any number of values in one action, so you should be done with your work in no time.

I should also add that JXL can do much more than the above: From support for configurable issue hierarchies, to issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi, @Hannes Obweger - JXL for Jira
Thank you for your answer !

Our team considered using that service but it turned out that it costs and for us having a a lot of member, we thought  it would be better to find a solution without it.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you !
