I know there are similar requests for this but cannot understand why its not available.

The closest query that works:

(Key > PRODUCT5_ISSUE-1 AND Key < PRODUCT5_ISSUE-100) ORDER BY "date"

//works as long as the end range key actually exists. So you first have to find that number

Why not the ability to convert the keys to text than do a ~ for wildcards.

It is stupid not to have this.

Hello @indigoredster

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, the parameter contains "~" is available only for text field which works as strings, like Summary. Description, Comments, etc.

We understand that this functionality would facilitate some queries, so we created the following feature request to enable this operator for the Issue-key field:

Extend the contains operator (~) to be used with Issue keys in JQL queries

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

Let us know if you have any questions.

i don't understand why they didn't include it in the first place. the issue-key field is a string. it would take a developer all of about 30 seconds to code and, dare-i-say, test it. but what the hey

Shame it's not done already after 4 years, such a basic thing.
