Is it possible to install plug-ins from same category at the same time in jira and Confluence?

jameer ahamad March 25, 2018

For example: I installed Zephyr for Jira-Test Management plugin in my server. Is it possible to install  Xray -Test Management for Jira and give access to the projects at the same time for same projects?

Yes, the applications don't care about the marketplace categories.  As long as add-ons have distinct plugin keys, you can install them in the same system (and the keys are always highly specific, with most vendors putting at least their name and the name of the add-on in the key)

Thanks for your answer Nic

reading following SO thread (https://stackoverflow.com/a/46660340), seems there could be some "overlaps" between plugins, so extra configuration care would need to be taken.

Can you confirm that, or is it old issue not applicable anymore?

In case it can occur, do you have an idea of possible points of attention when configuring several test case management plugins on same Jira instance?

Ahh, Stack Overflow, a wonderful place to get answers on so many questions and then to spend way too much time trying to work out which 1 in 100 are actually good.

As I said already, you can install both add-ons, and they'll work independently.

What I did not point out before (because it didn't seem important), was that running two test management systems at the same time is really going to confuse your users.  It will work, technically, but your humans won't get on with it.

Pick a test management system and go with it.  Don't try to use more than one.

That's the final goal, to pick  a TM system and go with it.

But to do that, we planned to provide for a benchmarking timeframe several TM plugins, so that our pilot users can exercise on each and participate on the solution's choice.

Instead of doing it sequentially, idea is to do it in parallel, so providing at same time those plugins. Hope it is feasible.

If you have them installed at the same time, you won't get a true baseline.  While they can co-exist, add-ons can try to do the same thing with an issue at the same time.

Imagine you have an two add-ons that allow you to create "test cases" under issues.  If they're in use at the same time, you could create a test-case for each which will cause Jira to spend more time processing the issue.  If you're going to benchmark add-ons, you need to do it on separate baselined services.
