Is it possible to make a project private using the free plan of Jira?

I failed to find any way to achieve this. It seems to me the only way it would be possible is by editing the permission but according to my knowledge, that's only possible in the paid plan. Is there any way I could achieve the same using the free plan?

The closest you can get to controlling who have access to a project on the free plan would be to use a team-managed (next-gen) project, but you will not be able to set what level of access they have in it.

I actually read about this alternative but haven't considered yet as I never tried new generation projects but thank you, I will give it a try.
