Is there a way to calculate story point values for sub tasks in the backlog view?

We create user stories (as an issue) and then create subtasks for the development efforts.  We do this to get the benefit of having user stories and the associated work show up on same line on swimlane view.

However, in the backlog view:

- the subtasks do not appear

- the story points for the subtasks also do not roll up into the subtask.

Is this even doable?
