I have created a linkedissuetype, however, on a task, it does not display the entire name (Bug/Improvement ...). Is the reasoning because there is a character limit? Please see the screen shot below.
Interesting question. Just wondering why you named your issue link type as "Bug/Improvement". Issue link type should be named based on the relationship between issues like relates, duplicate of, blocks, etc.
Ravi
The link type is not just "Bug/Improvement" there is actually more to that title. Which is one reason I am wanting it to display the entire thing. We have a project for "critical" type tasks, but create a related task in other projects to fix the "critical" task. It is solely based on how we have set up Jira.

Plus, bugs and improvements are totally different things, and should be issue types, not links.

I agree. The linked issue is just that, I have it set up to link to either a "bug" or "improvement". This is just showing the relation to the "critical" task I initially mentioned.
It is easier for us to create a JQL based on what I titled the linked issue type.

Sorry, we cross-posted on that one - I wrote my comment without having seen yours!
I know we're not really talking about bug or improvement here, but I think Ravi's basic point matters - why are you creating a link name that is so long Jira cuts it off? Why are you not just saying "blocked by" or "part of".

I want to be able to use this specific issue link that will only be used for that project I mentioned that has the "critical" tasks associated with it. If I just use "blocked by" and then run a jql, it will bring up all tasks that have this "blocked by", which I do not want.
And I know I could just use project="xyz" AND issuelinktype in (blocked by). However, the issue link I have created shows that this is only for xyz project w/out any confusion for the developers and managers when they want to run a filter.

I understand the reason for using a different link type, it makes perfect sense that it's not a blocked by or part of - those were just phrases I see a lot and used as an example.
The question is why you've got a huge long name for a link type? Is it really that you explain the link in a lot of detail? Could you summarise it?

No, that is summarizing it at its simplest form.
So, going back to the original question, it seems like it does have a character limit?

Yes, it does. Two actually - one is the size of the column in the database, but that's longer than the "don't display over-long names so it all fits on the screen" limit.
