Issue Updated notifications sending to users without permissions

Francesco C October 9, 2018

I have a Notification Scheme set up to only notify a specific internal group when an issue is updated (to reduce e-mail spam).

I've noticed that these updates are also being sent to another group that has not been configured to receive them. Notification Helper says they should not be receiving these notifications and I've confirmed these are internal notifications rather than the customer facing ones. I've also confirmed these users are not added as watchers or participants on any of the requests.

Is there a bug I am not aware of? We are currently running JIRA Core 7.5 and JSD 3.8.1 (with a plan to upgrade in the next month or so to latest-and-greatest)

Hello,

Try to use the Notification Helper to check why a user receives a notification.

If you look at my original post, I had stated that Notification Helper returns that they should not receive these notifications.

I see. Then it must be an add-on or something else, which sends these emails. I guess, it is a Service Desk project. If so, check the Automation rules in the project settings.

I have done that as well but just noticed that the e-mail format is the same when it says "Updated" but rather, it's due to a comment being deleted, which is a separate notification type. I think I've solved my problem.

Do you use JSD? If yes you have to check notification scheme and customer notification you will find your answer here.

Hope this helps

I have checked both and neither indicates that these users should receive these notifications.

Look at you workflow maybe you have something in it

Also checked the workflow (this is for multiple issue types/workflows) and there is nothing in Post-Functions or otherwise that indicates a notification should be sent. The notification received also follows the exact format of the "Issue Updated" notifications we see for folks in the group that should receive them.
