Dear Support,
Entering a new issue starts randomly from 937 whereas the expected number would be 505. These 505 issues were imported to JIra from excel files , but I can't see the reason why the counting deviates so much.
Many thanks in advance ,
Margarita Papadaki
Hi @Margarita_Papadaki Does the 505 issues have any sub-tasks within the ticket? If so the id of subtasks are also unique and the count exceeds 505.
Also if there were any tickets created in the pas in your jira then also it added some id counts.
I believe, there are no sub tasks for this project. So there must be another explanation

Were there previously created tickets in the destination where you are migrating your 505 tickets? Because Jira adds on unique id to tickets that we create. Even we clean all the issues the counter keeps on increasing.

It makes sense that the counetr had something not deleted . But We had permanently deleted all issues from the project, before importing the new ones. So what is the solution?

Though you permanently deleted tickets from Jira, the issue is will increment from the last ticket created.
The only solution here is to manually manipulate the ticket id from the backend database. Maybe your Administrator/DevOps/Backend engineer who has access to the db instance can assist here.
In addition to this you might want to create a support ticket at support.atlassian.com for the solution.

I contacted further support and apparently the suggested solution they provided me with (and claimed that is the only possible one ) is to create a new project from the beginning (and reimport all issues there )
Many thanks for helping me out !

Yes, Creating a new Project is like Restarting your computer :) Because the counter won't be reset for existing project :)
