We are working to set up a project management work management project. It doesn't appear that we can enable sprints in work management projects. Has anyone found a work around for this?
If you have the Jira Software product licensed in your environment you can manually create a Scrum board that references your Work Management project.
You will not be able to set the Location of the board to the Work Management project though.
You would have to set the location to a Software project or to your personal boards location.
The board would not natively display in the Work Management project interface, but you could add a link to it under Shortcuts.
In order to see that board the users would have to granted licenses to the Jira Software product.
Hi Trudy,
I gave it a try but unfortunately, I don't see any button to "Create a sprint" next to the backlog.
I also don't see issues that are in progress onto the board, the board is empty.
Is there anything that our admins have to do perhaps?
Thanks,
Akim

Hi @Paula Patterson ,
unfortunately, sprints are only valid in Jira software. Is there something about Jira work management that is required? That is to say, is it possible for you to use a Jira software project to meet your requirements?

Great question - from a project management standpoint I love the calendar, roadmap, and forms opportunities.
I have it on my list to check out marketplace and see if there are some apps that might support these types of things but wanted to jump in here first and see if there was a solution that people have already tried.

Hi @Paula Patterson, did you happen to find any third-party apps the might help us plan and start Sprints in Jira Work Management?
If so, could you please let me know? 🙏
TO ATLASSIAN:
We've been on Jira Software for over a decade and are used to two-week sprints.
Like another user posted here, I firmly believe that Business Teams that are closely coupled with Software Teams need to be on a similar Sprint cadence with their Software Team counterparts to help:
Jira Work Management seems to have so much better (more intuitive, Jira Product Discovery-like) UX that I know will help less-technical business team members flourish instead of feel frustrated or confused by the complexity of traditional Jira Software.
Sprint Planning in JWM, coupled with its more intuitive UX, would require less (ongoing) training and reduce the frequency of non-compliant adoption often found in Jira Software.
Thus, I'd like JWM to allow me the option to launch two-week Sprints for my Business Team (on JWM) that I currently launch on the same day (the first Tuesday) of our two-week Sprints for our Product/Engineering/QA Team on Jira Software—to align and coordinate all departments' and stakeholders' efforts.
As the other user said: if JWM does not have the ability to run (e.g. two-week) Sprints, it'd be a huge "missed opportunity for companies which have teams closely aligned with software teams," and I fully agree.
Furthermore, any startup that has multiple people (esp. founders/executives) heavily involved in executing and overseeing/managing both Software and Business Teams' Issues ("wearing multiple hats")—which Issues all compete for those persons' finite time and bandwidth—would want to plan, commit to, and maintain focus (i) on resolving specific Issues they budget and (ii) on achieving specific Sprint Goals they aim for over a 2-week (or similar) Sprint.
This is especially true if those Sprints are budgeted, deduced from, and derivatives of Monthly Goals, Quarterly OKRs (Objective Key Results), and Annual Plans/Strategies to help achieve the company's Mission and Vision.
If anyone has successfully set up, planned, and launched 2-week (or similar) Sprints with Sprint Goals and Sprint Commits in Jira Work Managment (JWM) without adversely affecting or complicating Epics, please let me know. 🙏 🙏 🙏
