I am using JIRA Software v7.1.6. Project is using software simplified workflow.

Today the number for the transition is displayed in the transition button next to the Transition name. This is not happening in a similar project with a software simplified workflow.

What causes this to happen?

You might have named the status along with the status id. Could you post screenshot of your entire workflow?
