Hi, I see many questions related to attachment restrictions in Jira but none of them have an answer. Does anyone know if attachment visibility in a ticket can be restricted by user type?

Thanks!

Hi @Alejandra DePaul ,

There is no built-in feature in JIRA that allow you to restrict attachments.

I recommend you to check the Smart Attachments for Jira app, they have a feature that allow you to restrict access to attachments based on permission (see here  https://docs.stiltsoft.com/display/CATAT/Managing+category+schemes#Managingcategoryschemes-Managingaccessrestrictionsforcategories )

I've used before and it's a nice app and you could evaluate in your staging/development instance.

Hi @Italo Qualisoni [e-Core]  thanks for your response. I tested that app recently and liked it as well. I was hoping for a built-in solution since our organization is quite large and they limit app usage.

I totally understand your use case, for now there is no way to restrict attachments per user type.

I've found this Suggestion from 2004 that is related to the topic https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-3893 and you can vote/watch for it (I'm voting for this feature too)

The only way of restrict attachments that I know is when you are using JIRA Service Desk, which you can choose what attachment would you like to share with your customer in the customer portal, but I don't think this is what you are looking for.
