Jira / Confluence integration

GC April 5, 2022

I am the admin for Confluence site and I am trying to set up the integration with JIRA site that has another administrator. Both are behind the same SSO.

I create the link and give it to the other administrator, but he tells me it doesn't work because on his JIRA side since my Confluence is behind SSO.

On my side I get the error: "a reciprocal application link is missing on that server. You'll need to delete and then re-create this application link."

Do we need both to do the set-up at the same time? Or can I create the link today and he can try and set up JIRA the following day?

Can I change the OAuth settings or do I need to recreate the link?

Hi @Giovanni Chierico ,

welcome to the Atlassian community!

You need to create a reciprocal link (from JIRA 2 Confluence and from Confluence 2 JIRA) and use OAuth (impersonation) for both incoming and outgoing as Local Authentication.

It should solve your issue,

Fabio

Hello @Fabio Racobaldo _Herzum_ thanks for the quick reply.

The JIRA admin pointed me to https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/application-links-not-working-behind-third-party-sso-962336266.html to say that it won't work.

In that article it is not clear if it is also impossible if both JIRA and Confluence run behind the same SSO.

What do you think?

Hi @Giovanni Chierico ,

on the provided article a workaround is provided.

My suggestion is to :

Another way is also to white list all the Atlassian application(s) server IP addresses on the SSO application side, this way only requests between applications will not go through SSO, while all other external requests will pass through the SSO application

We cannot whitelist the IPs unfortunately.

But do think that even if both are behind the SSO they will not able to connect?
