Jira Installation

I am trying to install Jira using tar.gz file. should I separately install apache tomcat to host Jira or the one which is available in Jira tar file will be sufficient. if it is sufficient how do I setup Jira using apache tomcat. please help

Hello @Padmasree P

 

with the .tar.gz file you will have Tomcat included, so you do not need to install it separately.

You can setup Jira by following this guide.

Thanks, should we compile tomcat or starting Jira will take care of tomcat internally

when you start Jira, the Tomcat software will be started as well. You don't need to do anything else.

That's not technically right.

When you "start Jira", you don't start Jira at all.  The scripts start a Tomcat that happens to have a Jira pre-installed in it. 

Tomcat is an Application Server, which, once it has completed its own startup sequence, looks for applications that are installed in it that are configured to run automatically.  In the case of the Atlassian applications, that's the only one installed.

Thanks for the detail, should we create tomcat user in server to set up Jira. how do we set up tomcat. please help
