Jira Software - Does it have to be an external database?

The install guide for windows says to install an external database. Can I not just put it on the same server?

Hi @Justin Bleich , 

in this case, external database means something else than the embedded h2 database (it's used for demo purposes). You can of course have your own database on the same server than Jira.
