Jira import from CSV does not work for sub-tasks

Erik Mathijs

We have some work management projects wich start with a set of issues.

For this purpose we created a Template project from wich we exported the issues.

Because there are sub-tasks in the export file, we have to map the issue id and parent id during the import process.

if you match the "Issue Id" and “Parent” fields in your CSV file to the corresponding Issue and Parent fields in Jira

In the past the import worked fine, but when we want to import the issues (from the same export csv) we can't map the "Issue ID" and "Parent" and all sub-tasks are not imported.

Can someone help me to get those import working again ?

Hi Erik,

Make sure you do the import through Settings > System > External Import and not through the filter/search function.

Hi @Erik Mathijs,

Hopefully you have found a way to get around the issue by now. If not, have you tried using the Parent field to import your issues into (instead of Parent Link)?

Hi @Walter Buggenhout ,

I tried to use the Parent field (the only option now)

In the import you must map Parent to Parent link ?

parent.JPGI tried this, but it doesn't work.

Cheers,

Hi @Erik Mathijs

I'm Luka from codefortynine 👋

If you are willing to try a third-party app, you can try our app Deep Clone for Jira.

Deep Clone can clone your template project including all subtasks with its Project Clone feature.

You can find a detailed step-by-step in our documentation here.

Hello @Erik Mathijs

You need to break the import into two steps. First, import the parent. and then in the second CSV import the subtask and make sure this time you are mapping the sub-task to the parent field.

Kindly Accept and Vote if it helps.

Thanks

Asha

Hi Asha,

Is it possible to give me example files (parent issues and child issue) and the explanation how to map the Parent.

In the import you must Parent to Parent link ?

Thanks in advance.
