Jira rule is not working

Neo1!1 January 27, 2022

Hi,

I'm quite new to Jira. So I made a Business Project and defined a suitable workflow. The workflow includes five consecutive steps where the last one can be accessed from Any Status.

I added a rule though to this "All Status" transition - that tasks will be able to transfer to this status only if previously were in a certain status.

So I move tasks to the certain status and if I move them to the last status (which holds the rule) the task just jumps back to its previous status.

Can anyone explain why the rule is not working? Thanks much in advance.

This is a screenshot of my workflow:

Hi Arie,

Unless I am missing something - why to you have an ALL transiton to the last status and not just a simple transition from ESS to Packing?

Since all steps prior to ESS are linear and must be followed, when would you EVER be able to move an issue to Packing without having been through all of the steps, including ESS?

I would simple make that change to the workflow to add a direct transition from ESS to Packing and drop the ALL transition.

Hi John,

You're absolutely right about this WF. I plan to change it so the paths will not be only linear as in the current flow. It will include more paths in the future and so just wanted to try the rule and see how it works before going any deeper. Thanks your attention though.

@Neo1!1 Seems you are using wrong conditions. Please share screenshot of the workflow and the condition of the step

All --> status means you can move to the status from any status to the mentioned status

HI @Neo1!1 ,

welcome to the community!

In order to make your rule working, you should add "Previous Status Condition" to your transition to the last status of your workflow.

You can add multiple conditions, if you need to allow user to move issues in the last status if issue was in any of the selected statuses. Please, remember to to select "Any of the following codition" .

Hope this helps,

Fabio

Hey Fabio, thanks your reply.

How do you get to this view in your reply - Administration? Can't find it.

Ciao @Neo1!1 ,

this is a change that should be performed by a JIRA Administrator at workflow level. As a project admin you are not able to put in place your requirement.

That's how I'm defined in Jira. Am I not a Jira Administrator?

P.S. about the question above, I'm defined as an Administrator in the Jira projects.
