Linking Jira issues on Confluence space

Good day,

We know that we can link Jira issues to a confluence space via the copy link shortcut but was wondering if there is an easier way to update both instances at the same time

I.e If we add an epic to a project, can it auto populate into the product requirements template without copying the link, or if we update the product requirements can it be created as a epic on the project?

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Hello Stephanie,

for both directions there are solutions in place:

  1. Auto populate the confluence page: In general Confluence need to know about the dynamically created issue in Jira. As you can create issues in different Jira projects and of different types/criteria you need to specify which issues should show up on your confluence page.
For this reason use the Jira query language (JQL) in the Confluence page:
    • Add the macro "Jira Issue/Filter" (for server) and "Jira" (for cloud solution).
    • In the search filed enter the JQL or filter definition matches your project or other criteria of the new created issues.
    • Issues are shown in Confluence.
  2. Create an issue from Confluence:
    • Mark the text of you Confluence page (outside of the edit mode)
    • Confluence offers you a option to create an Jira issue
    • Select a project and issues type. The marked text will be used as summary.
    • Issue is created in Jira and show as Jira issue in Confluence page.

I hope this helps you,

Regards, Bernhard

Hello Stephanie,

depending on your Confluence setup there are two slight different implementation, so here the two options with the latest Confluence versions. You reach this (orange marked) menu when you in the edit mode of the page.

When your Confluence runs on local server (within your company):

(BTW, there you see an already embedded Jira issue, in the edit mode you don´t get the issue details)Confluence_Jira_Macro_Server.png

And when you Confluence runs in the "Cloud" (outside your organization):
