Linking issues from a Jira Cloud instance to a Jira Server instance

We currently run a Jira Server instance but are evaluating Jira Service Desk, and would like to try running the hosted ("Cloud") version.

If we do so, what are our options for linking JSD issues (customer support) to Jira issues (engineering)?

@Greg Johnson

I will suggest you to try to create Application Link between two application .

This document will guide you for the same :

Thanks.  That works pretty well, although I can't move issues between the instances I guess.

Hi @Greg Johnson

For that purpose , you may want to consider below plugin.

Hi @Greg Johnson,

When you mentioned wanting to 'move the issues between the instances' do you mean that you'd like the data in both issues to be kept up to date with one another?

If that's the case, then as Prakhar mentioned (thanks by the way Prakhar!) Backbone Issue Sync sounds like a good match for your use case. Please be aware that I work for K15t, the vendor of this app.

With Backbone, you could synchronize issues between your JSD and Jira instance – so that each issue in the JSD would have a counterpart in the Jira instance (and vice versa). And because Backbone automatically synchronizes issue data between the issues, both issues are always up to date with each other.

Backbone also has a Sync Info Panel containing a link to the partner issue, so when you view an issue, you can see which issue it is being synced with in the partner project. And comments can be synced too so your engineering team could make comments in their issue, and your customer support team could then see those comments in the JSD instance.

Does that kind of configuration sound like it could help you in your scenario? If so, if you have any questions about Backbone, or if you'd like a demo, please reach out to us at support@k15t.com and we'll be happy to help.

Cheers, Tom

Thanks, Tom, I'll be in touch.  I've found the licensing of Backbone to be confusing but will ask that directly.

I am trying to link Issues from Cloud to Server. I linke both instances already, but I am not able to link the issues between both instances.

I don't to synch them, just to create a link between the two issues(relates to, blocks...)

Anyone knows if this is possible?

Hi Greg,

You might also consider Exalate.

The following blog shows how you can combine Exalate and the Automation for Jira add-on to implement a move.  The example is server based but you should get an idea of exalate's capability
