List items are using letters instead of numbers

Alan Au February 7, 2021

Is this a bug or perhaps a config?

In our Jira, list items are shown as numbered in Edit view but once saved become letters.

For example, in Edit view:

This is my list:

  1. first item

  2. second item

 But after saving it becomes:

This is my list:

  a. first item

  b. second item

I actually want the items to be numbered and not lettered.

Hello @Alan Au,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

Testing on my local site, I was able to replicate the same issue on the new issue view.

Based on that, I created a bug for our dev team to check.

Please, click on “This affects my team” and also watch to receive updates.

@mogavenasan thank you for creating the ticket to warn us about the issue.

Kind regards,
Angélica

Hi @Alan Au,

Not sure what's going on here. It would be great if you can provide screenshots of the content before (Visual mode and Text mode) and after.

For your reference, if you are using Text mode, you can use this doc as a reference for the markup.

Thanks,
Moga

I do not see an option for viewing the text markup. But here are some screen shots.

* Edit mode:

* After saving:

I think the issue is related to the fact that the list is at sub-depth level.

Hi @Alan Au,

Sorry, it took me some time to get back to you. I needed a Jira Cloud instance to test this and yes, you are correct. This is reproducible.

Actually, the culprit is the New Jira issue view - if we disable this, they will work as expected.

It could be a bug or expected design - can only be confirmed by reaching out to the Atlassian support.

@mogavenasanThanks for taking the time to confirm the problem.

Hi @Alan Au

After you submit the defect, please post a link to it so others may follow it.  I did not see this symptom listed under the parent new issue list item:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-70555

Thanks, and best regards,

Bill

Unfortunately Atlassian has a closed bug reporting system which only allows company admins to log defects. So it may take me a while to get the right people's time to care enough to log the defect. Don't know why Atlassian makes it so hard - I'm spending my own time trying to help them improve their products yet they throw barriers in the way.

So, if anyone can log the defect in my stead that would be appreciated.

I have reached to Atlassian support - might take some time for them to create the bug report.
