Merge two different Jira Softwares

Furkan September 3, 2021

Assume company X bought company Y, both using Jira servers. We want to merge these two servers where there is no loss for custom fields/boards/sprints/history etc. There are two plugins that I know of about this issue, project configurator and configuration manager. However, we get some errors different than each other.

I also tried having backup and deploying to the other one, also exporting to/importing from excel or csv files don't work since they don't keep history data etc.

Is there any other way to merge two servers with all the projects & issues & boards etc. where there will be no loss of any data?

It would probably be best to look again at Project Configurator and Configuration Manager - both were mostly written to do merges and are the best tools around for the job.

I would pick one, and chase down what the errors are.

Thanks for your reply. A further question for this, company X and Y has the same custom fields with the same ids. What if they overlap? Is there any suggestions for this?

Hi @Furkan

it is hard to same something definitive towards an 'overlap' first and foremost because that can mean several things. Assuming the custom field is of same type the Apps which Nic mentioned are capable of respecting that (a huge plus of those two Apps is they check carefully what is present and what you intend to migrate).

In some more complicated cases the Apps warn you - what to do then depends on what the current finding is.

One picked example from documentation:

That being said each migration/merge is highly specific, you need to test and in very complex scenarios probably also involve a well trained partner - maybe even one that is specialiced in migrations.

Daniel
