Method for referencing a variable as the user in Jira automations

Syd Skaff March 19, 2025

I am looking for a way to avoid "hardcoding" users into my automations. When people move jobs or change roles, I don't want to have to search through my automations to find all the times they've been referenced and replace each instance. I'd like to basically set variables associated with users in certain positions, and just adjust the variables as people move.

This would apply for automations I have set up that add a watcher, send an email, or assign a ticket.

Hello @Syd Skaff

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Have you checked if the Transfer User feature will suit your needs without having to create variables?

Syd Skaff March 19, 2025

This is helpful and pretty much covers what I need! I will just have to keep track of the people in my automations to know when to use this feature, but that should be easy.

Hi @Syd Skaff , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

Do you also have JSM with Assets to use?

Best wishes

Syd Skaff March 19, 2025

We do have JSM but the project I am mainly concerned with is not a JSM project.
