I'm trying to create a sandbox in Jira Cloud, however, the Create Sandbox button is missing from the page.
Is there some additional step that I need to take or permissions I need to have to activate this feature?
Hi Teale - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
To create a Sandbox, you must have a Premium subscription for Jira.
If you'd like to learn more about sandboxes you can look here https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/manage-product-sandboxes/

Hi John,
Thanks so much! I did read that, however, didn't realize that was the key. Based on what I just read though it appears that Premium doubles the cost of the license. We're a small organization so is there a work around that you recommend? I have considered using a personal account that I created but using the sandbox in the existing instance seems so much easier. Is there someone we can speak to about this?
Please let me know your thoughts.
@Dirk Ronsmans - Thank you for the link to additional information.

Hey Teale,
Yes, Premium is expensive - but there are a lot of other benefits to it besides the sandbox.
Having said that, I don't even use the sandbox. There are very few things that I really need to test out in a sandbox first. Then I have to do double work to get it moved over. I test things in small ways like with a single test project or single issues for what I am changing over.

Hey John,
Maybe you don't mind if I pick your brain a little. I'm intrigued by your statement that you don't use the sandbox.
The work I'm doing is to reconfigure an existing instance that has a lot of team managed projects and a few company managed projects to form a cohesive flow of work for their cross functionals. So the sandbox is really important for this. I saw the other variations between Standard and Premium. Maybe you could outline a few that are key to your organization and why?
If you don't have time, that's okay too. Just thought I'd ask.
Thanks for your response,
Teale

Why not just create a couple of test projects and try it out. If it works then you just switch out the workflow schemes on your projects. It's really that simple for me.
What do you think the sandbox will accomplish for you? Maybe we could start with that.
Premium gives us Advanced Roadmaps, increased Automation for Jira rules executions, archiving projects - things like that are more beneficial to us than the sandbox.
I hope that helps a little.

Hi John,
Thanks for providing that insight in some of the Premium options. I agree, those are beneficial.
For me, I think sandbox provides a clear view of what's OOTB vs what someone else has built in the system. I think I mentioned, the instance I'm working in has a lot of objects in all of categories, i.e., issue types, issue schemes, workflows, workflow schemes. There's one for almost every project in Jira. We're working on clean up but want to begin building and testing the company wide workflow in sandbox before rolling out to the larger user group.
The company has decided to move forward with Premium so I'm sure I'll be asking more questions here in the near future. Thanks again!
