Moving JIRA and Confluence Server to new hardware

jyang825 November 30, 2018

I have been running JIRA and Confluence Server on my laptop for personal use. Now our team is expanding and I am moving them to a server in the office. I plan to the do the move this way:

  • Back up both JIRA and Confluence data
  • Reinstall JIRA and Confluence Server on the new machine with the current licenses
  • Set up PostgreSQL 10 (I know only 9.6 is officially supported but 10 is reported to work; I currently use the default H2 database)
  • Restore JIRA and Confluence data

Does this process work? Any better ideas?

Thanks!

Hi @jyang825

your process is essentially correct. There is a more detailed article on the approach here

Ensure your server and plugin versions are compatible. If you’re planning a Jira upgrade, do it separately before or after migration.
