I'm after advice to move JIRA and Confluence applications from one Windows server to another but keeping the database in it's original position. The documentation I have seen implies the database is moving as well but I just require the apps moving. Can you direct me to existing documentation or just advise me which parts to ignore regarding a database? Thanks in advance. Dave
Hi @Chris O'Reilly ,
if you're only moving the applications, then you can copy Jira and Confluence application folders, and HOME folders. The database connection will be kept in the JIRA_HOME and CONFLUENCE_HOME directory so you don't have to touch these.
Let me know if this helps,
--Alexis
Thanks Alexis. It does make it a simple move in that case. Once I've started installing on a new server can I ignore the normal database setup part of the install and go straight into the directory copying? Or are you saying that I can just copy the directories without going through the installation exe? thanks Dave

Hi @Chris O'Reilly ,
you can use the installer to install the service I guess, and then overwrite the Jira and Confluence folders with your other server backups.

Hi Alexis, I would think that if you just copied the folders on their own you wouldn't create the services. Thanks Dave

yes, that's why you may need to run the installer first (it will create the service) and then just overwrite the folders created with the one on your current installation
