Moving from ProjectPlace to Jira

Joey Sawyers May 13, 2022

I'm going to be heading up the import of all of our boards from ProjectPlace into Jira, looking for any guidance/documentation you guys have about this! :)

ProjectPlace offers excel downloads, and has a bunch of columns to sort data into... Global Card ID, Card ID, Title, etc.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What advice or guidance are you looking for here?  An excel sheet with a load of issues in it, one per line, is exactly what Jira needs for an import of issues into your projects.  There's not a lot more we can tell you other than you're already on the right track - export your issues into a spreadsheet with all their fields, save it as CSV, import it into Jira.  It even has a system field for "external ID" which you can store the "card id" in so you can refer back to your archived projectplace if you need to.

Yeah I went through the import interface Friday evening, it made a bit more sense once I found myself there. (I thought there would be a template csv, but the mappings cleared up why there wasn't a template.)

I'm going to try it today and see how it goes; if I have issues with the import I'll reply here :)

I'm also not sure how I'd get comments linked to cards... I did my first successful import, but during the validation process, had to remove a few things to get it to work.

1. Most of my users aren't in yet, so I can't link cards to specific people yet... which makes sense.
2. I don't see any fields to map comments to. My Comments CSV has things like "Created" "Comment" "Global Card ID" and generic "Card ID", but I'm not sure how I'd link those columns to specific cards within the mappings.
2.5 I'm assuming that I can map "Global Card ID" to "Issue ID" (I don't see anything called "External ID"), but then I don't see a "comments" mapping or anything like that.
3. I have a "created" date that I would potentially want to map, but I don't see any mappings associated with a past date of card creation. (I assume this is because they're all being 'created' now, even if it's importing old things?)
