Multi Site JIRA - Advanced Roadmaps capabilities

Francesca Myerson June 23, 2020

We're looking at whether creating multi-sites within our organisation is something that will work for us so have a few questions which are unclear to me.

1. With Advanced Roadmaps, is it possible to pull data from multiple projects in different sites within the same Jira instance into one roadmap?

I'd like to have a full programme overview but projects might be in different sites.

2. If a user has full access in one site (an external user for example), is it possible to give them limited access (viewing only) in another?

If I was to create the roadmap in point 1. in our main site, I'd like my external customer to be able to view it (but they'd only have full access in our second site) - is that doable?

Please let me know if anything is unclear and I'll try to explain in more detail.

Thanks

Francesca

Regarding plan B, the similar solution is Exalate.

Check following community post which details out the approach

Hi @Francesca Myerson

I am not sure if I understand your question correctly - can you confirm if you plan to gather information from multiple Jira instances in one place? ]

If so, it will be possible in the next stages BigPicture 8's evolution. Please see this blog post for more details. As you will see, we plan to allow integrating more than one Jira instance with our plugin as our next step. We estimate to get it delivered in 2021.

Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions regarding this.

Best regards,

Hello @Francesca Myerson if you need a big picture across many tools and instances you would need to consider Jira Align for that.

I don't see it very likely/reliable that you will be able to do this without it.

Hi @Hernan Halabi - Elite IT Consulting Group Thank you for your response. We won't have multiple instances but multiple sites within the same instance.

Would you still think Jira Align is the only solution for this?

Thanks

Sites or instances are pretty much the same to me, so to clarify if you are pulling data from two Jira pages (jira1.domain.com and jira2.domain.com) advanced roadmaps won't work and Jira align is the potential solution but it's usually meant for large companies with thousands of users.

If this isn't the case it will most likely exceed the budget.

Plan B? Sync the projects with backbone sync or similar and use advanced roadmaps. It would need a lot of work and testing but maybe you can make it work that way.
