Hello,
We are making a discovery and sending the results directly to Jira Cloud.
At this moment, we are trying to apply a naming convention to the hosts we are discovering but do not find where to use it.
Do we have the opportunity of applying it, for example, I would like to have the hostname set as this one: XLX_${Hostname}
I have tried to set it in the mapping configuration but it is not working.
Thanks a lot,
Victor
Hi @Victor Parera,
I do not have an immediate answer to what you are trying to achieve, but rather a question to challenge you a bit on your requirements.
Discovery basically discovers the items on your network based on how they are called. If you are going to introduce a naming convention that alters the names you discover, aren't you creating confusion by naming things differently than they really are?
If you want to uniquely identify items discovered, this is what the object hash is for. You can read more about this in these support articles:
Hope this helps!
Hello @Walter Buggenhout ,
Thanks a lot for your response, your question challenged my requirements. However, the intention is to provide the final user in the Jira Service Management tool the ability to understand the host he is opening the request for without knowing its real name of it, so I believe our true intention is to set this naming convention in the NAME attribute and leave the HOSTNAME attribute as it is called.
The previous approach will give us the ability to not lose how the item is called within the network but provide the users an easy way of knowing the HOST they are opening the ticket for.
Thanks a lot!
