I have been giving a Next Gen Project a try mainly due to Roadmap feature. Among many of the other features already raised such as Sub Tasks and Versions I am having trouble with getting the description field to render in a Next Gen project.
The {panel} or (flag) or {color:} tags all seem not to work in Next Gen.
Is there a way to solve this or is this an upcoming capability?

Hello Jay,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
Indeed, the Wiki Markup is not properly working on the new issue view of JIRA, so we have reported it as a bug to our development team:
- Wiki Markup does not work in the New Jira Issue View
Please, watch the reported bug to be notified of any updates on it. For now, I recommend you to use the old view to properly render the wiki markup on the issue fields.

Unfortunately the solution ticket was closed disregarding the next-gen project specific that new jira issue fields are by default on for the next gen and cannot be disabled. So currently there's no possibility to insert wiki markup in the default field description for next-gen issues - thus, for example, I cannot insert a table on the default description for next gen projects :(

Hello Jay,
Thank you for getting in touch with Atlassian Community!
The new issue view uses markdown formatting now and not wiki markup, that's why it's not working as it worked on the old view.
You can find more information here: New Atlassian editor
The editor in the new issue view uses markdown rather than wiki markup. Right now, if you've added wiki markup in the old editor, we'll render it correctly in the new issue view. As we continue to roll out the new issue view and new editor, wiki markup support will be phased out and eventually removed in favor of markdown.
If you have any other question, please let us know!
Regards,
Angélica

Thanks Angelica, that is really useful I will pass this onto the team and we will review the markdown style.
