Not seeing Parent and Child relationships of EPIC's in Roadmaps/Plan

C-Robert.Gill December 22, 2023

Links are there in each ticket, this seems like a background Jira configuration issue.

Hello @C-Robert.Gill

Are you working the the Standard or Premium subscription?

With what type of project are you working? You can get that information from the Type column on the View all projects page under the Projects menu.

Can you show us a portion of your roadmap/plan that illustrates the problem?

And can you show us the details of an Epic that also is included in the problematic issues?

The parent/child relationship display leverages the Parent field in the child issues to identify the parent issue. If you have used the generic issue linking functionality instead, then Jira will not recognize that as a parent/child relationship.

How do I tell if it is Standard or Subscription?  This is a filter built roadmap from a Software Project

If you have a menu option for Plans you are on a Premium (or Enterprise) subscription.

If that menu option is not present then you are on a Standard (or Free) subscription.

I have the Plans drop down

Ok, then you  have the Premium subscription, at least.

Can you address the other questions I asked?

Do the missing child issues of the Epics show up in the plan under the "33 issues without parent"?

What is the filter that you are using for this plan? When you use that filter in the View all issues screen, do the results include the missing issues?

Can we possibly set up a call?

Labels in ("S&R", NG, iCPE) AND "Assigned PI" in ("Network Solution PI 23.1", "Network Solution PI 23.2", "Network Solution PI 23.3", "Network Solution PI 23.4", "Network Solution PI 24.1", "Unassigned Backlog") AND status in ("Pending Approval", Open, "In Progress", "In Review", "On Hold", "In Definition", "In Deployment") ORDER BY key DESC

Hopefully this answers your questions, I see no reason why the child issue should not be showing here unless something on the backend in Jira is not set correctly?  Please advise, I am open to a call or video call to screen share.

Oh come on @Trudy Claspill you went dark on me...  I have some new queries that provide the results I want but it still seems there is a Jira linkage issue preventing me from doing this the easy way.  In other words, I should not have to use ChildOf queries.  When I used the old Jira Portfolio in the past, it picked up the Parent/Child Relationships

So how do I request support from Jira on this issue, because I feel the transition to Plans broke the functionality?.

If you are a Jira Admin, Site Admin, or Organization Admin, you can open a support case related to your instance at https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

As to me "going dark", I hope that was a tongue-in-cheek complaint. There have been a few holidays since last I looked at this thread, plus I participate in this forum on my own time (I have a full time job). Additionally the Advanced Roadmaps area is not a feature that I work with a lot, so it will take me some time to try to recreate your scenario, and doing so is not my top priority.

The next step in debugging would be to confirm that the missing issues actually fall within the scope of your filter:

Labels in ("S&R", NG, iCPE) AND "Assigned PI" in ("Network Solution PI 23.1", "Network Solution PI 23.2", "Network Solution PI 23.3", "Network Solution PI 23.4", "Network Solution PI 24.1", "Unassigned Backlog") AND status in ("Pending Approval", Open, "In Progress", "In Review", "On Hold", "In Definition", "In Deployment") ORDER BY key DESC

The plan will show only the issues that are within the scope of that filter, I believe.

Kidding, I figured you were out of pocket and hope you had a good Holiday Season.  I have had to rebuild multiple filters
