Question from user: Is it possible to receive notifications in advance of an approaching due date on a Jira? For instance; I have a Jira with a Due date of 2020/08/17, I would like to get an email one week prior to that due date.
This is in a classic project.
Hi Bethany,
Yes, we do a lot of those with Automation For Jira. Here is some basic information about the tool:
There are two types of automation:
Automation Basics: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/expand-jira/automation
You can do this via global rules to apply to all projects also. You'll need to be a Jira Admin/Site Admin, go to Jira Settings > System > Automation Rules (left-hand menu).
For more on using Automation For Jira see these help pages.
Here's an example of a rule we use to send out 14 days prior to the Effective Date. You can replace with 7 days or however long you like and the Due Due.
Hi @Bethany Holt ,
in addition to @John Funk recommodations I'd also definitely watch the webinar "Getting started with automation in Jira" (https://www.atlassian.com/webinars/software/getting-started-automation-jira).
And if you want to test your automation rules before "wasting" executions in your running system, I'd use the automation playground (https://docs.automationforjira.com/rule-playground/index.html#/).
But that's just additional fodder to John's prior recommodations. (Although I would start with the webinar and afterwards read the articles).
Have a great week,
Sebastian
