With the Team field now being a bit more complete within Jira (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-discussions/Atlassian-teams-are-coming-to-Jira-Software/td-p/2282350)., when a "Team" is set within the Team field on a ticket, is there a way to notify the "Team"? I just tried and no notification goes out. I checked in the notification scheme and there is no way to specify that the "Current Team" should receive notifications for an event.
Hi Gary! It’s exciting to see how JIRA is evolving, especially with the new ‘Team’ field feature. Your question about notifying specific teams when a ticket is updated is a great one. Here’s a bit of insight into how you might approach this:
As of my last update in April 2023, JIRA’s native functionality didn’t offer a direct way to set notifications based on the ‘Team’ field. However, there are a few workarounds and tools you can use to achieve something similar:
Custom Email Notifications: You might want to explore JIRA’s marketplace for add-ons that allow for more flexible email notifications. These add-ons often let you define custom notification schemes based on various fields.
Automation Rules: JIRA’s automation engine can be pretty powerful. You could set up a rule where, if the ‘Team’ field is set or changed, it triggers an email to a predefined distribution list associated with that team. This requires mapping each team to an email list, but it can be an effective solution.
Project Roles and Permission Schemes: Another approach could be to align teams with project roles. You can then configure the notification schemes to send alerts to a particular project role. This requires some initial setup to align each team with a corresponding project role.
Group Subscriptions to Filters: If your teams frequently check JIRA for updates, you might consider having teams subscribe to a filter that shows issues relevant to them. While this isn’t a direct notification, it does allow teams to regularly see issues pertinent to them.
Integration with Collaboration Tools: If your organization uses collaboration tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams, you could set up integrations where certain updates in JIRA automatically post messages in specific team channels.
Feedback to Atlassian: Given that the ‘Team’ field is a relatively new addition, it might be worth providing feedback to Atlassian about this feature. They could be working on more direct ways to handle team notifications.
Remember, each of these methods might require a bit of setup and tweaking to align with your specific team structures and workflows. But with a bit of creativity and some exploration, you should be able to get those notifications flowing to the right teams! 🚀📬 Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to shoot!
