Region based permissions (Israel)?

Are we able to assign permissions based on a region? For example, if a ticket comes in from a customer in Israel, can it be assigned to the Israel team?

There's a fundamental question that determines quite a lot about a possible answer to this question.  I don't want to write several "maybe" type paragraphs, it's better to ask it and then concentrate on a more focussed answer.

Jira does not have any function that looks at where someone is located.  The question is "how do you know where a particular user is from?"

There's ways to answer this:

  • Do some geo-location on where they're connecting from (I personally wouldn't bother - I worked for a place that "needed" to do it that way in the UK, and only 60% of connections were actually accurate.  There are trains and trams in the UK that have German IP addresses, bits of the Netherlands are in the UK by network, there's a good chunk of British migrants living in the south of France and Spain that needed to be identified as being in the UK, British armed forces on service overseas, the list is a bloody nightmare.  Plus, people with VPNs and onion-routed networks are increasing as people become more security-conscious)
  • Put them into groups in Jira
  • Tag something on to their profiles in your IDP
  • Use certificates for access, ones that include where the user is considered to be located
  • and probably a load more

But if you can tell us how you are (or would like to) identify where they're from, we can probably give you something to work with.

Hello @CHILLAMCHARLA VARUN

What are you running - JSD?

If so, you might be able to do that with the system automation (not the project automation). You will probably have to list up the domain ending to identify this.

I am pretty darn sure you can do this with scripting and 3rd party app, like Scriptrunner.

We are using Script Runner.

Can you help me how to work in Script Runner.

Thanks.

Sorry @CHILLAMCHARLA VARUN  I am not a scripting guy. There are some ready made scripts that you might want to take a look at on https://library.adaptavist.com/

Hello!

Yes, it is possible.

Can you give more information:

1. Do you use Jira Core/Software or Jira Service Desk?

2. Do you have any 3rd-part apps?

3. How you get the tickets(hand-created, mail-handler, JSD-portal, etc)?

4. How you want to know the region? Based on what criterias(mail domain)?

5. Do you already use any security-levels in your project?
