Hello,
We are running Jira server, and until recently we had a project (call it Project Prime) with several boards associated with it. These boards were configured mostly with default settings, i.e. shared with the project, query is "project = PRJ ORDER BY Rank ASC", no subfilters. Users would regularly select the PRJ project and use the "BOARDS IN THIS PROJECT" drop-down menu under the project name to navigate between the various boards.
Then this week, users noticed that the drop-down menu was missing entirely, though the boards still existed. What's more confusing is that even when I create a new board, either Scrum or Kanban, from an existing project (selecting PRJ of course) there is still no recognition of this new or any other board. On the board configuration screens, the last field is "Projects in board: Project Prime", so it seems at least that the board believes it should be associated with the project.
I've tried googling around for answers but the only thing I could find was that the filter that the board is based on needs to be unambiguously and exclusively about the project in question. Yet as I said, these filters don't include issues from any other project at all.
I'd appreciate any ideas. Thank you..
I think I discovered the reason for this, which is that Project Prime was configured as a 'Business' project as opposed to a 'Software' project. Until today I hadn't been aware of the distinction, but apparently, Business projects don't support linking agile boards.
Now the problem I need to solve is how the change happened.
Someone might have changed the settings for the project.
You can change it under Project Administration -> Actions -> Change project type
Changing the type changes the setup, so that could be what affected your project.
Here is a list of the differences in the project types: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver073/jira-applications-and-project-types-overview-861253007.html

It seems a bit odd as the boards should show up as long as you have that project in your filter query. So having project = PRJ should make it show up in the three dots next to your project icon...
Can you doublecheck the filters and the project id so no one accidently changed it somehow?

I checked the filters as best I could, but unless I'm missing something it is pretty hard to trace changes to filters as they don't show up in the audit log. I can confirm that the project ID didn't change. But the thing is that even if the filters and/or the project id changed, shouldn't I still be able to create new boards that are associated with the project? And yet nothing I create appears there.
